TM FRED TEXAS WINS THE GRADE 1 UAE PRESIDENT'S CUP STAKES BY 9 1/4 LENGTHS AT THE HISTORIC CHURCHILL DOWNS
June 18, 2011
TM FRED TEXAS (x Queen Kong) got off to a shaky start at the first ever and much anticipated Arabian horse race at Churchill Downs. Out of the gate FRED collided with the 2 horse. The incident put him at the back of the pack for the first quarter of the race. The crowd turned its attention to favorite GRILLA and DIXIES VALENTINE, who battled for first place into the second quarter.
FRED methodically pushed ahead to third place before the second quarter pole. His sights were now set on GRILLA and DIXIES VALENTINE who still battled for first.
Just before the third quarter pole, FRED made his move. At the jockey's urging, FRED quickly closed the gap with DIXIES VALENTINE and GRILLA. As the three horses took the final turn, FRED passed GRILLA who was now faltering. GRILLA fell behind to a distant third.
It was now a battle between FRED and DIXIES VALENTINE. As they entered the home stretch, the two horses were neck and neck and running wide open. "TM FRED TEXAS now in unchartered waters with regards to his stamina!" proclaimed the announcer.
FRED apparently heard the announcer. As if to prove himself to the announcer if not the thousands of fans who had put their money on GRILLA and DIXIES VALENTINE, FRED began pulling away. With a final furlong to go, FRED accelerated against all expectations and crossed the finish line full steam ahead. . . . DIXIES VALENTINE crossed the finish line 9 1/4 lengths later.
This historic victory makes TM FRED TEXAS 6 for 8 in two years of racing. FRED now has three stakes wins, the last being his 7-length victory at the Grade 2 Texas Six Shooter Stakes Race on March 4, 2011.
