EAGLE ONE & COOL SAND LUKE GET THE EXACTA!
November 30, 2008
As BURNING SAND runners have done many times in the past, EAGLE ONE (x Laura Ku) takes first and COOL SAND LUKE (x Amelia CS) finishes second to win the exacta at Los Alamitos (6). EAGLE ONE is pictured below.
The Story of EAGLE ONE
A horse like EAGLE ONE is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. He possesses a keen mind, fantastic physical stature, and desire to win that is obvious to all who have seen him run. He has the ability to go to the lead, lay just off the leaders, or to come off the pace, and his move from the quarter pole to the finish line is a study in heart and triumph. Win or lose, he gives everything in each race.
His go-to jockey, Eulices Gomez, has stated that out of all the horses he has ridden, Thoroughbred, Quarter Horse, or Arabian, EAGLE ONE is his favorite. There is a true team feeling between them when he runs, and Eulices says he has never ridden a horse with as much heart or desire to win.
A gentle horse around the barn, a veritable metamorphosis begins as he walks from the paddock to the track. EAGLE ONE seems much larger, and it is this physical transformation and his game face that brings out the inner strength and desire to win. EAGLE ONE inherited this desire from his sire BURNING SAND, and the same desire and tenacity are present in each BURNING SAND foal.
BURNING SAND horses improve as they reach full physical maturity, and their ability increases incrementally. EAGLE ONE is a much better horse at seven than at six, and we look forward to racing him through 2010 (at which time he will be syndicated for stallion duty).
Horses with ability pass that ability on to their offspring. BURNING SAND was a tremendous race horse and passes his ability, heart, and desire to win on to his foals. In my mind, BURNING SAND is the most dominant Arabian sire of his generation, and his impact will be felt for decades as his descendants continue to pass his mind, heart and desire on to their foals.
